I am just beginning my voyage into the professional art world. I began painting angels for my little girl around a year ago and she remains my inspiration. Shiho learned her ceramics in Kyoto while studying under her 8th generation family Professor, Rokubei Kiyomizu, of the Kyoto University of Art and Design. She was focused on creating decorative art until she relocated to San Francisco in 2015, and then later New York in 2018, where she began exploring opportunities for creativity. Both of her decorative and functionable arts are inspired from the beauty of nature that can be casually discovered everyday. For example, when clay is torn by hand, she can discover the beauty of the natural texture of the clay. Also, by putting herself in a new environment, she appreciates what she has learned in Japan ever more, but at the same time, she is thrilled to pursue the challenge of new creativity in New York.
